Phanteks, Cryorig and Noctua offer an upgrade kit for the AM4 socket, which will be used by the new AMD Ryzen processors, all kits, completely free.
The arrival of the new AMD Ryzen processors brings with them novelties in terms of socket, since it migrates to socket AM4. This will force two things, the first to change the heatsink or second, to request the manufacturer of our heatsink for support, with an anchor update, if we are going to change our equipment and want to use the heatsink that we currently have. Phanteks, Cryorig, and Noctua have already announced that they will be offering upgrade kits for their coolers.
Phanteks, Cryorig and Noctua join the update offered by BeQuiet !, Enermax and LEPA. EKWB already said it would offer this upgrade kit, but once the processors hit the market and not before. Normally these updates are usually free, we would simply have to register the product on the web, but it would not be the first time that some large brand of heatsinks charges for the update kit.
Starting today, anyone interested in buying an AMD Ryzen processor can request an AM4 upgrade from Phanteks, so they won't have to wait when the processors are released. The process is rather unusual, as to request the upgrade you must send an email to Phanteks USA ( [email protected] ) or to Phanteks Global ( [email protected] ) if you are located elsewhere in the world.
Cryorig, for its part, has stated that anyone who purchases an AMD Ryzen processor will be able to request the upgrade kit, but that it will be sent once these processors are on the market, not before, and that theoretically it will be completely free. Cryorig has said that it will offer the kits for the Cryorig R1 Universal/Ultimate, C1, H5 Universal/Ultimate, H7, H7 Quad Lumi, M9a, C7, A40, A40 Ultimate, and A80. The product registration number or proof of purchase of the cooler and the AMD Ryzen processor would be required and should be sent to [email protected ]
For its part, Noctua makes it much easier and will support all Noctua heatsinks manufactured since 2005, using the SecuFirm2 mounting kit. For this we must upload the proof of purchase to your website. Depending on the model that is registered, the NM-AM4 or NM-AM4-UxS kit will be received, depending on the heatsink that we register. All this at no cost to the user, of course. For those who do not want to wait, these kits can be purchased for € 8 and the waiting time is from one to four weeks.
