Intel has almost finished its new Kaby Lake processors , the next generation of processors that will arrive on the market in a matter of months. These new processors, although still using the LGA1151 socket , will come with a new chipset belonging to the 200 Series . Some brands will surely launch new motherboards, with SMC (SuperMicro) being the first to showcase new boards, a brand that is likely relatively unknown in the Spanish and European markets. These new motherboards will be based on the H270 and Z270 chipsets.
These new motherboards aren't the final version, so analyzing their connectivity or other features is less relevant at this point; it's better to focus on the technical aspects. The interesting thing about these motherboards is that they feature the Series 200 chipset, technically known as Union Point , which supports Intel Optane SSDs and Rapid Storage technology for PCIe slots. A very interesting new feature, without a doubt.
We should mention that we can upgrade our system's processor as long as we have an LGA1151 motherboard, since a simple BIOS update on Skylake- compatible motherboards will allow us to install a Kaby Lake processor without any issues. Regarding the processors, we know they will be available in three versions with TDPs of 35W, 65W, and 95W. The SMC motherboards in question are the C7Z270-PG, C7Z270-CG, C7Z270-CG-L, and C7H270-CG-ML.
It should be noted that these motherboards as they are not final versions, they should not have even been leaked, but here we are, with the leaking of the images and some interesting little data. Now we will have to wait for the final version of these motherboards to see what their technical characteristics are and what they offer us compared to more established brands on the market.
