Pokémon GO will reverse changes it made months ago due to the coronavirus

Pokémon GO made changes to be able to play while the coronavirus continues. Niantic has decided to keep some, but remove others.

Today the coronavirus pandemic is still quite active. This has particularly affected Pokémon GO due to lockdowns and quarantines that make it difficult to go out and capture, and social distancing measures that make it difficult to gather for raids. Niantic introduced remote raids, daily gifts, and more distances to trigger PokéStops, but some changes are going to be rolled back.

Rollback and changes in Pokémon GO

Niantic has confirmed that some of these changes to Pokémon Go due to the coronavirus will remain in place for the foreseeable future, such as the ability to perform raids remotely, changes to the Battle League, and the greater distance you can rotate Photodisks in Gyms and Poképaradas.

There are other temporary bonuses that will be permanent to improve the overall Pokémon GO gaming experience:

  • The maximum number of gifts we can carry in the item bag at one time is kept at 20.
  • We will receive a triple Stardust bonus and experience for our first Pokémon catch of the day.
  • The duration of the incense will be kept at 60 minutes

But as of Thursday, October 1, the following changes will be made:

  • Egg hatching distance will return to normal, instead of needing half the distance traveled
  • The increased effectiveness of incense will now only apply when walking
  • Our companion pokemon now he will bring us gifts only when we have run out and he will only give us one a day
  • We will have a better chance that PokéStops will give us a gift, but it is no longer ensured that PokéStops and Gyms will give us one

On the other hand, the incubators for hatching eggs will be included in more boxes in the game store. That changes are kept is fine, but it is not acceptable that changes that were introduced to Pokémon Go to continue playing during the coronavirus pandemic are reverted and are in parameters at the beginning of the year when many people still have reduced mobility and even in some countries a second wave is coming that makes it unsafe to spend a lot of time out hunting Pokémon.
