Intel Project Athena seeks to create very light and compact laptops with great autonomy
The desktop processor market seems to be starting to be dominated by AMD thanks to the zen architecture. The company knows the great potential of its solutions and knows that the gaming market has it well controlled. Now they are going for the laptop market and Intel does not want to let them. Thus was born the Athena Project, which seeks to tie up the laptop market.
What Intel's Project Athena is looking for is potential the main features that users demand. The aim is to offer more portability, more performance, greater autonomy and an immediate response. Of course, the company also takes connectivity into account, seeking to offer the best possible solutions in this field.

Intel Goes For The Laptop Market With Project Athena
This project was presented at CES 2019, but it was not in the middle of last year that the requirements were revealed. These Intel requirements to be certified require quite demanding characteristics. Basically Project Athena is a certification that seeks for the user to have the best possible experience.
To receive this certification, the following characteristics must be met:
- An Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor 10th Generation
- Minimum 8GB DDR4 in Dual Channel configuration
- SSD of at least 256GB
- Thunderbolt 3 and 6 WiFi
- Fingerprint authentication or facial recognition
- Screen larger than 12 inches with minimum resolution 1080p
- Backlight keyboard
- Return from sleep state in less than 1 second
- At least 16 hours of autonomy in video playback or 9 hours in uninterrupted navigation
- When they connect to charge, in less than 30 minutes they should obtain a charge for at least 4 hours of autonomy
We see that Intel's requirements for this certification are no joke. Currently there are already at least 40 laptops that meet the requirements of Project Athena. Brands such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, Lenovo, Microsoft, Xiaomi, LG, Samsung or HP support this project. These manufacturers would have or would be working on laptops that meet the parameters.
A very broad market
During the month of September 2019, when they return from school and work holidays, more than 40 laptops were launched. AMD alone this year would have launched 40 of laptops based on the Ryzen 4000H / U and there are many more to come. This shows that it is a very large market, that moves a lot of money and nobody wants to lose market share.
Although Project Athena already has about 40 laptops that meet the requirements, in 2021 things should go further. The number of systems that meet these requirements is expected to increase next year. It should be noted that Project Athena will update the requirements as new technologies arrive. By 2021 it is foreseeable that Intel will require 11th Generation processors, Thunderbolt 4 and 5G connectivity.
Intel has also highlighted that it continues to work with more companies to launch dual-screen equipment. The first to hit the market was the RoG Zephyrus Duo 15 from ASUS. It is expected that in 2021 the teams with this dual screen system will grow a lot. Come on, it seems that 2021 will be a very interesting year.
