MacBook Air with M2 chip would arrive in 2022

Apple is rumored to be planning to launch its M2 chip alongside a new version of the MacBook Air in the first half of 2022. The M2 chip appears to be different from the M1X chip that is supposedly reserved for high-end Mac Pro devices, such as the MacBook Pro and a larger iMac Pro.

According to the well-known leaker Dylandkt, Apple plans to release the M2 chip in redesigned versions of the MacBook Air. The remodeled versions would feature colorful designs similar to the colors of the iMac range. Other rumors claim they would come in multiple colors, with a display OLED and a lower price.

M1X before M2 chip for MacBook Air

Dylan also points out that the M2 chip is different from the M1X chip, which is rumored to be a variant of the M1. We could see it in just a few months, given that the M1X would be an extension of the M1 processor with higher power consumption, more CPU and GPU Cores. The M2 It would be a next-gen chip built on the same foundation that the A15 is built on.

Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman's prediction of Apple's future plans also lines up with Dylan's claims. Gurman said Apple will reserve the name "M2" for next year's chips, and that it will likely debut on new MacBook Airs.

Dylan has a history of accurate predictions. In November 2020, it announced that the new iPad Pro model will take advantage of the M1 chip, and five months later, the product was launched with the same chip. In early 2021, he claimed that the new iMac would include an M1 chip and not the M1X. This statement also turned out to be correct, so there are clear reasons for us to believe his latest prediction as well.
