Microsoft would be working on Windows 11 SE and a Surface to compete against Chromebooks

Recent rumors claim that Microsoft would be about to compete directly against Chromebooks. It is reportedly preparing to launch a new low-cost Surface series laptop aimed at educational markets alongside a new edition of Windows 11 called Windows 11 SE.

Windows Central reports that the upcoming Surface laptop could also be called the Surface Laptop SE and will include an 11,6-inch display with the Intel N4120 Celeron processor and up to 8GB of RAM. This budget-friendly laptop would be designed for elementary school students and would have the lowest possible cost, with a single USB-A and USB-C port.

Microsoft would enter the field of Chromebooks with Windows 11 SE

While Microsoft has been using SE for additional versions of Windows, Windows 11 SE would not be a second edition of Windows 11. It would be like the S versions of Windows 10, which are designed for low-cost devices to compete with Chromebooks.

Windows Central rumors have not specified when Microsoft plans to release this new Surface Laptop, nor its version of Windows 11 SE. Windows Central also hasn't offered dates on when to expect a potential announcement or its release.

Admittedly, Microsoft previously released the Surface Go with S mode, and it was aimed at the education market starting at $ 399 not including the necessary $ 99 keyboard. But this time it looks like this Surface Laptop SE will be priced below $ 400 to compete with Chromebook competitors from manufacturers Dell, Lenovo, and HP. They would also be good options for remote work, since despite the fact that the pandemic has subsided and has made millions of workers able to work from home, they prefer to have a dedicated device and in these cases, the cheapest laptop may be the option ideal for workers and companies.
