Expanscape Aurora 7, a laptop with no less than 7 screens

When we talk about a laptop, we are talking about a conventional structure that is divided into the hardware and the screen. Laptops only have one screen, although we've seen a 3-screen Razer prototype that never made it to the market. But can you imagine a laptop with 7 screens? Well, Expanscape is developing the Aurora 7, a laptop with effectively 7 screens.

You are probably thinking that this is truly crazy and that it doesn't make much sense. The truth is that for gaming it does not have it and it is not the purpose of this laptop. Basically the development is focused on designing and creating a security operations center that has the capacity to be transported.

Expanscape Aurora 7, a curious 7-screen laptop

The interesting thing about this team is that despite having hardware that we could call gaming, it is not focused on gaming. The goal of this prototype is to create a workstation for security operations that can be easily transported. And the plan is ambitious, because it specifies some restrictions that are still under development.

Although it is based on a laptop structure, logically it is far from being a typical laptop. The prototype, which is already in its third version, is quite heavy and clunky. You want to get the system to have a maximum weight of 10 kilograms, something not easy. Obviously we will seek to offer a solution that offers great structural rigidity, something that is also close to being achieved.

Obviously we are talking about a laptop, so batteries are needed for its operation. Currently the process of creating an autonomous system with a simple battery recharging system seems to be practically complete.

One of the more ambitious goals is that you want the batteries, parts and wiring to be easily accessible and can be replaced if necessary. As we can see, a very ambitious and uncommon design.

A gaming laptop that is not designed to play

Regarding hardware, the latest version called Aurora 7 M3 has commercial processors. Specifically we have a version with the Ryzen 9 3950X with a B450 chipset or an Intel Core i9-10900K with a Z490 chipset. Evidently power to this system will not be lacking.

The next is the graphics card, which is intended to offer a great balance between performance and autonomy. For this, an NVIDIA RTX 2070 has been integrated, although this system was initially based on a GTX 1060.

Another very interesting aspect is the storage of this curious Aurora 7 laptop. It has two M.2 slots with Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB units under PCIe 4.0 interface to offer great speed when working. In addition, it is complemented by two unspecified 2TB SATA SSDs based on MLC memories. Indicate that it is the Intel system that carries the two 2TB SATA drives, the AMD-based only carries one SATA drive.

Seven screens and a few more just in case

This equipment stands out for supporting neither more nor less than a total of 7 screens. The main screens, called 2 and 3 are 17.3 inches with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 with a refresh rate of 60Hz. Screens 1 and 3, which are apparently the side screens, are the same in size and characteristics as 2 and 3. No more details are given about what we could say, 4 main screens of this system.

Screens 5, 6 and 7 are 7 inches with a WLED LPTS type panel. Each of these three displays offers a 1920 × 1200 resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate. Note that the screen 6 is of the touch type with up to 5 access points. In addition, it has a 1.44-inch TFT LCD type system status display and a 3-inch mini 0.7-digit numerical display.

So we have a total of 7 usable screens at all times that is complemented by two system monitoring screens. These additional screens simply give information, they are not usable, we could say.
