XMG reports delayed delivery of its laptops because AMD does not supply Ryzen 4000H processors

After conquering the desktop processor market and rising strongly in the data center market, AMD is going for the notebook market. This is one of the most lucrative markets out there today. It seems that sales in this market would be higher than expected by the company. XMG reports having trouble acquiring AMD Ryzen 4000H processors.

The laptop maker reports having trouble acquiring so many processors to meet demand. XMG reports that it has hundreds of customers waiting for its laptops but cannot keep up with orders. This has been the reason why they have had to explain that the delay is AMD's fault and not yours.

XMG reports that AMD does not supply enough Ryzen 4000H processors

Shortage issues have been rumored for some time by AMD, due to TSMC not keeping up. It seems that the demand for Ryzen processors for laptops is so strong, that the problems have increased. This means that manufacturers like XMG, who have opted for AMD chips, cannot meet customers. The problem is that the bad image is given by XMG, not by AMD, who is to blame for the delays.

To avoid damaging their brand image, they have reported the problem on Reddit. They have made it clear that since they do not have Ryzen 4000H processors they cannot send the products. The company reports that they expected a shipment in mid-August and another in late August, but they will not. XMG indicates that the new arrival date will not be until the end of September. This has caused them to have to delay the shipment of 1.600 XMG 15 computers based on the Ryzen 4000H.

The news is bad, but it has a good part, everything that is made for AMD is sold with great ease. The demand has exceeded AMD and especially TSMC. Note that today we learned that AMD would have reserved 16.000 wafers per month between the 7nm and 5nm lithography by 2021.

Message on Reddit

On July 31 we received an announcement from our ODM (who designs and manufactures products for other brands, in this case it would be Clevo) that we are facing a serious shortage of CPUs from AMD in the third quarter of 2020. Large orders that recently It has been confirmed that they will be shipped from our ODM in the middle and end of August they are supposed to be delayed until the end of September.

This is explained by a serious increase in demand from the big brands and by what we assume are bottlenecks in AMD's production capabilities.

Upon receiving this news on Friday (July 31), we reached out to our corporate contacts at AMD, who confirmed that this is an industry-wide shortage and there is no way around it. We currently have an order backlog with our AMD Ryzen 7 4800H ODM of over 1.600 units. Both AMD and our ODM have confirmed that our demand has been allocated (which means: we will get those CPUs), but the merchandise will not reach our ODM before the end of September.
