NVIDIA May Announce Resizable BAR Support Tomorrow

A few weeks ago AMD announced Smart Access Memory technology in the Ryzen 5000 and RX 6000. The curious thing about Resizable BAR (actually the name of this technology) is that it has been available since 2008. Well, it seems that NVIDIA will finally support Resizable BAR, but in this case, for the RTX 30 Mobile. According to rumors, tomorrow during CES 2020 they will present this technology.

Resizable BAR technology allows the processor full access to the graphic's VRAM memory. The processor, instead of loading the data for the GPU into RAM, loads it directly into the GPU's VRAM. By reducing the data request time, accessing them and sending them to the GPU, up to 10% more performance is achieved.

Resizable BAR could be supported by NVIDIA shortly

Interestingly, Resizable BAR is available since the PCIe 3.0 standard released in 2008. It was HP and AMD who promoted this solution. The processor thus gains access to the entire amount of VRAM in the GPU and not just the 256MB that is accessible without this technology.

NVIDIA with the adoption of this technology reduce the latencies of data processing. This at an effective level usually translates into 10% more FPS, more or less, always depending on the game.

Intel processors support this technology from the Haswell architecture, although as far as we know, it has never been officially activated. We assume that if NVIDIA adopts Resizable BAR, Intel will enable this technology shortly.

At the moment, it is unknown what NVIDIA will do with Resizable BAR. We don't know if they will simply support or add some features or plugins. It is possible that NVIDIA will end up giving this technology a commercial name, just as AMD has done. We also do not know if the support will be limited to the RTX 3000 or if this technology will also be supported in the RTX 2000.
