The first keyboard «connected to the Internet»

Das Keyboard 5Q with direct internet connection is posited as the future of keyboards

Today, the Texas company DasKeyboard has announced that during CES 2017 in Las Vegas it will present its revolutionary keyboard, the first in the world to be directly connected to the Internet and with all the advantages and functionalities that this adds, apart from being mechanical and with RGB lighting. After sweeping Kickstarter, with a 580% fundraising, everything is ready for this company that by its name seems German, but is actually North American, to show us everything that this keyboard is capable of, which will incorporate the “5Q” technology (invented by themselves).

What is known for now

Being pioneers in 5Q technology, it is based on a software developed by them that works according to a color map on the keyboard that shows different types of notifications or information. At first what I just said is something difficult to understand, we are going to explain it in a way that is easier to understand since we are not used to this new technology. We are facing a keyboard with RGB lighting, which can receive notifications and information from the Internet, what it does is that when it captures them, it illuminates certain keys of the keyboard as we have previously customized it in its own software. In this way, it notifies us of the new and if we press the illuminated letter, the new notification or information will be displayed. Some examples of what the keyboard can display are: incoming emails, stock status, sports updates etc… with different color schemes, recognizable by the owner of the keyboard.

Rest of functionalities

The above mentioned is only part of what the Das Keyboard can do:

  • RGB LED lighting, with its own software that allows the incorporation of macros and profiles with each customizable and individually controlled key.
  • An open and open source API that will allow developers and programmers to directly control the keyboard and its lighting through scripts and commands.
  • Possibility to import and export other users' profiles in a so-called "marketplace".
  • A control panel, "command center", from which we can customize how we want notifications and information to reach us (what information/notification, what color, etc.). It can also be linked to services such as IFTTT, Zapier with a public API.
