Samsung reduces its NAND Flash production due to the increase in Covid cases in Xi'An

The city of Xi'an in China, where there are two Samsung NAND flash memory production factories; is experiencing an increase in Covid-19 cases. Facilities were closed yesterday due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the city, and they are now making changes to their factories to comply with government-imposed COVID-19 restrictions in order to continue operating.

This means reducing the supply of NAND memory, which can easily affect SSD drives. The two factories that have been affected represent about 40% of Samsung's total production, which will easily affect its entire assembly line and those of other manufacturers, which may have to turn to other suppliers.

Samsung's production will fall due to Covid cases

Samsung has announced that they have temporarily adjusted operations at our manufacturing facility in Xi'an. It has been done in accordance with your commitment to protect the health and safety of your employees and partners.

They are moving production to other facilities to make up for shortfalls resulting from the closure of Xian. These temporary measures should not affect customers, despite the fact that the closure of Samsung's factories in Xi'an accounts for more than 40% of the company's NAND flash production. And Samsung accounts for 15 percent of global NAND flash production, bringing the shutdown to 6% of global production.

It is added that the Xi'an factories are responsible for Samsung's high-layer number V-NAND flash devices, directly affecting the production of the next generation 176-layer V-NAND for the future. PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 SSD. It does not know how long its production will be affected by the Xi'an closures, so it is not known how or how long the entire production chain will be affected.
