Resident Evil will have a new installment that for now bears the name of Project Resistance. Asymmetric multiplayer game for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
At the last Tokyo Game Show, Capcom has unveiled a new type of survival horror set in the Resident Evil universe. Project Resistance is its working title. This five-player asymmetric multiplayer online game will combine both cooperative and competitive dynamics, with the opportunity for users to create their own survival horror experience.
Survival Horror Multiplayer Asymmetric
Four survivors must work together to escape a nefarious experiment and overcome the twisted Mastermind who controls everything from behind the scenes. Capcom is developing Project Resistance in collaboration with NeoBards Entertainment, using Capcom's proprietary RE Engine known for its high-quality gameplay and remarkable visual fidelity in games like Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry 5.
In each 4v1 match, one player will take on the role of the mastermind who tracks the four survivors in a network of security cameras, staying one step ahead at all times to prevent their escape. This Brain concocts a deadly trajectory wielding a strategic deck of cards to create dangerous obstacles for survivors, such as summoning ruthless creatures, setting traps, manipulating the environment and setting up security cameras. He or she can also directly control the zombies in the game. Additionally, players in the role of Cerebro can even don the trench coat of the mighty and deadly Tyrant for the first time in franchise history.
In return, Survivors must work cooperatively as a team to fend off brain attacks and complete puzzle-style mission objectives to escape the map before time runs out. Each survivor has unique abilities to help the team overcome the challenges that come their way and survive the sinister experiment. Attendees of the Tokyo Game Show had the opportunity to test early access to this project in development. Additionally, members of the Xbox Insider program and Resident Evil Ambassadors may be selected for a chance to participate in the Project Resistance closed beta on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The closed beta will take place from October 4th to 7th. Registration for the beta will be available from September 11th to 18th here. More details about Project Resistance and the closed beta will be revealed soon. Project Resistance is currently in development for PlayStation 4, the Xbox One family including Xbox One X, and PC.
