Sony announces a slim PS5 model with a modular disc reader
For a while it has been rumored that a new PS5 model was going to be released. They would be models more in the Slim line than models that simply reduce weight and production. Sony has announced these new PS5 models, without the name Slim, because they are replacing the current model of the console, not being a different version.
Furthermore, it is rather a single unified model: a model from which the disc reader can be extracted or removed as the user wishes. It would be a way to unify the production lines to a certain extent, and for the user to purchase a digital version and then the hard drive separately.
This will be the slimmest version of the PS5 from which the disc reader can be removed
As Sony commented on its blog, the new PS5 will arrive for the Christmas campaign, and will have a modular design. Two commercial models will go on sale: a PS5 Slim All Digital model, and a model with a disc reader. But they are really the same console and design, except that The standard model includes the removable disk reader as standard.
The price of the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc reader will be 549,99 €, and the PS5 Digital Edition will be priced at 449,99 euros. For its part, the reader will cost 119,99. Thus, the model with a reader included would be cheaper than buying a model without a reader, and then buying it separately.
One of the very few differences that it will have over the original model is that The included SSD will be 1 TB versus 500 GB that was offered as standard. It will also be somewhat smaller, and lighter, so it should fit on more shelves, but it would still not fit into the space of a Kallax shelving unit. Ikea. Furthermore, this new model will eventually replace the original PS5 model in stores, so it will not be a case of a Slim model going on sale in parallel, but rather it is a full-fledged replacement. once
