Rambus would already have DDR5 RAM memory operating kits, memories that will hit the market next 2019 and that will offer higher base frequencies and transfer speeds than the current DDR4.
We are in a moment, in which the price of RAM and SSDs, does nothing but go up, due to the shameless manipulation of the NAND Flash manufacturers. The excuse of demand by smartphones no longer holds and it is clear that right now manufacturers are only looking to obtain a lot of income at all costs. Well, while we are in an absurd situation, Rambus has reported that they have already manufactured the DDR5 RAM memory kits, which will arrive at some point in 2019, for the common user, before they will arrive for the servers.
The DDR5 RAM memories, with respect to the DDR4, differ in that the former will have a much lower consumption and the data transfer will be doubled. As we say, for average users these will arrive sometime in 2019. JEDEC, who is in charge of the standardization of DDR technology, has specified that DDR5 will have a base frequency of 4800MHz, a working frequency that is double that of the 2400MHz base of the current DDR4. It should be noted that G.Skill and Corsair already have memories that work at 4600MHz, but with a large consumption.
About DDR5 memories, we must say that they will offer a base transfer of 6.4GB / s and can go up to 51.2GB / s, while DDR4 memories start from 3.2GB / s up to 25.6GB / s. Future memories, which will work at 4800MHz, will have a consumption of 1.2V, while the current models of DDR4 @ 4600MHz, which consume 1.5V. The capacity of these RAM memory modules will go from a maximum of 64GB of capacity of current models in Dual Channel, up to 128GB in GDDR5 memories.
