The premise behind this new Razer initiative is its belief that innovation and strategic progress should take precedence over quick financial results. To that end, zVentures will focus specifically on startups and emerging companies that play a significant role in expanding Razer's product platform.

Likewise, zVentures will serve to develop other functions and business units within the Razer ecosystem, becoming a new source of inspiration for future new products, as well as a point of attraction for new talent in the company's different business areas.

Razer has a long history of partnering, third-party ventures and business development,” said Razer Co-Founder and CEO Min-L0iang Tan.

The cumulative benefit of these initiatives in the last decade has been both positive and significant.

zVentures promises to be the means by which the development of these projects has a greater reach and impact.

As the market leader in the interconnected devices and software category, Razer is in a position to identify, execute and manage investment opportunities within its general market.

Razer initially plans to dedicate more than $30 million to zVentures . This will include $5 million in investments related to Virtual Reality , specifically the "OSVR Development Fund," as well as another $5 million in the development and publishing of Android games under the OUYA publishing label.

All zVentures “categories of interest” for investments include companies in connected devices, software and analytics (including big data), advanced manufacturing, virtual reality, eSports and robotics.

The beneficiary companies are free to work and operate independently with other companies in the sector, but only developing non-gaming products, as well as seeking investment from third parties.

At the end of the day, we are going to target companies that have massive growth and improvement opportunities, which can increase our experience and expertise," Tan says.

These companies can be in development chain management, sales and marketing, or other fields. Ideally, target companies will take advantage of the extensive networks and resources of the Razer ecosystem.

The zVentures fund will be managed globally by Razer's offices in both San Francisco and Singapore. The team, led by Tan, is already receiving and seeking projects in need of investment.
