He has also talked about market shares in computers, where yes, AMD with Ryzen could give a significant boost, but we must be cautious in this regard because Intel has a lot to say. What has caught our attention the most is the data from last year, where it claims to have gained market share in general, when it has possibly been one of the worst years in the history of AMD, especially because they did not have processors that could compete with Intel and on the other hand, they did not have graphics that competed in the high and extreme range with those of NVIDIA.
A graph that is not fully understood is that of 'Growth in PC'. Everything indicates that AMD expects that this year and next, Ryzen-based products will increase in sales, both in desktop, as well as in laptops and compact equipment thanks to APUs. We are not going to deny that Ryzen and its variants brought AMD significant sales and profits, but the graph seems to indicate otherwise. What we think the graph means is that Ryzen will carry a significant weight, with the processing solutions developed for Microsoft and Sony falling in importance, specifically custom console solutions (and similar solutions developed for other companies).
AMD also talks about the expansion in platforms such as consoles, gaming and professional equipment from HP and Lenovo, the Alienware from Dell, the return to the MacBook Pro, which as we know should be given shortly. It is a bit strange that AMD continues to insist on Polaris and more so if Raja Koduri, the chief of graphics at AMD, does. I wonder why now that MS launched its Surface Notebook and the other products of its surface line, because it has not requested custom APUs like those of XBO or project scorpio, of course they are based on a better CPU than the Jaguar, I it seems that they would be a very interesting option being able to incorporate a GPU much more powerful than the integrated one of the intel! and that at least maintains a similar performance to that of the Surface Book or the Surface Studio without problems. I think that considering the sale price that is handled in the media for the Project Scorpio it is perfectly viable for a team that would require one less chip (dedicated GPU) to contain prices, consumption and TDP among some other things that I forget to mention!
It is not necessary to use custom APUs, they will simply use APUs, which happens that when they were presented, the APUs were not official, but surely there will be versions of Surface Laptop with Ryzen APUs, since they have presented what will be the top of the range model , there will be cheaper versions, what's more, Microsoft said that the most economical solution they would offer would cost $ 169 or so.
