Samsung announces the availability of GDDR6 memory in its catalog

Taking advantage of a special statement from Samsung to acknowledge the 36 CES 2018 Innovation and Design Awards, they announce the availability of GDDR6 memory for the next generation of graphics cards.

There are less than two months until CES 2018 takes place and before the event starts, the awards that are given to different products and companies that will attend the event are already beginning to be known. Samsung has taken a few stories, getting no less than 36 awards from CES 2018 and possibly the most recognized within Design and Innovation. The company has released a statement to thank these honors and, incidentally, to talk about the next products and technologies to be launched on the market in the near future.

What most interests us hardware and gaming lovers is the arrival in the Samsung catalog of the new GDDR6 memories, where it stands out that '(…) the fastest and lowest-power DRAM for next-generation graphic applications' These new memories, according to the data, should allow the processing of images and video at 16Gbps with a bandwidth of 64GB / s. Samsung has also said that this new DRAM will work at a voltage of 1.35V, which is an increase in energy efficiency with respect to current GDDR5 memories, which have a typical consumption of 1.5V.

In addition, the company has also announced the NGSFF (Next-Generation Form-Factor) SSD solution, which according to the company 'dramatically improves the storage capacity and performance of 1U rack servers', something that will allow reaching speeds E / S of 0.5Pb / s. These units have measurements of 30.5x110x4.38mm, which improves density and optimizes space. They are interesting news, which provide important new features, especially in the field of graphics, something that touches us very closely.

  1. Wow, we just need Samsung to start making ARM TV CGPUs (desktop) with at least console power to play,

And that the GNU / Linux that they are going to carry run Steam and its games so that it is finally the year of GNU / Linux on the desktop, even if it is via Samsung TVs and phones connected to desktop screens, and tablets and screens with keyboard phone peripherals (dumb).

  2. Interesting contributions from Samsung ... but what about prices !! ??? ... I think they will not stabilize until the end of 2018, the beginning of 2019 unless the Chinese hit the market hard
