Samsung is already starting to manufacture second-generation 8GB DRAM memory chips, based on the 10nm manufacturing process, which will improve performance and consumption.

Among all the products, the company also manufactures NAND Flash memories and processors for smartphones, starting the production of the second generation of memories, among which are 4GB DDR8 RAM chips, the most on a single chip to date.

This second generation of memories, which allows a better integration, especially in the internal memory of the smartphone and will also allow an improved memory use. Samsung, in order to start manufacturing these new second-generation memories, has been forced to apply and develop new work methodologies, as the President of the Samsung Memory Business Division, Gyoyoung Jin, has well said:

By developing and innovating with the technology that we introduce into the circuits and work processes of DRAM memories, we have broken one of the biggest barriers to the growth of DRAM technology. With the growth of this second generation, we will have a more aggressive expansion to be able to face the high demands of the market, and thus continue to make our businesses strong and competitive.

The second generation of memories is based on 10nm and will offer around 30% more production compared to the first generation. In addition, an improvement in performance of 10% and a reduction in consumption by 15% are also expected compared to the aforementioned, first generation. These are expected to have an operating speed of 3.600MB / s, against 3.200MB / s, compared to the first generation. The company has also highlighted, it will allow to accelerate different memory manufacturing processes for graphics and DRAM memories, such as DDR5, HBM3, LPDDR5 and GDDR6.
