Samsung introduces Chromebook and gaming laptops

Samsung unveiled two new Chorme OS Chromebook laptops and two Odyssey gaming laptops at CES 2017.

CES 2017 starts strong by Samsung that has presented many things, including new Chromebooks and new gaming laptops. Regarding Chromebooks, these convertible laptops will be characterized by, in addition to working under Chrome OS, having greater compatibility with Google Play applications. It will arrive in two versions, the Chromebook Pro and the Chromebook Plus.

Chromebook Pro will be the most powerful version, which will have a touch screen with 360º rotation type LED and will be 12.3 inches, with a maximum resolution of 2400 × 1600 pixels. It will have an Intel Core M3 processor, without a fan, which means that it will work with passive cooling. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, in addition to having two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C ports. The structure is made of metal, making it extremely light, around 1.1Kg. The most basic version will be the Chromebook Plus, which only changes processor, this being an ARM x86. According to Samsung, both models have an autonomy of 8 hours.

Additionally, these laptops will have a built-in Stylus, something that already happens in the Galay Note, which will be integrated on the side and will have similar functions to those we can see in the TouchWiz. These laptops will integrate Google Keep, the system for Android notes and Samsung ArtCanvas, a drawing utility.

Continuing with the diversification that Samsung is undertaking, we have the new gaming laptops, called Samsung Odyssey, which comes in two versions, one 15.6 inches and the other 17.3 inches. Both models will have Intel Core i7 Kaby Lake processors as well as NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics cards. It is not a new solution, as it will be something quite common in the laptops that will be seen in Las Vegas. They have two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI video output, USB 2.0 connectors, Ethernet port, among others.

The company is committed to offering 1080p resolutions in both laptops, far from the 4K offered by Lenovo or Alienware, which reduces the final price of the laptop. Regarding the battery, the 17.3-inch Odyssey has a 93Whr battery, while the Odyssey 15.6's battery is 43Whr, excessively if we compare it with its older brother. No estimates have been given for battery life, but on these laptops, when gaming, it typically lasts four hours at most.

Regarding the rest of the features, the 15.6-inch Odyssey will have a maximum of 32GB of DDR4 RAM, a 256GB SSD as first and a 1TB HDD as secondary, finally weighing 2.53Kg. The 17.3-inch Odyssey will be more powerful, maxing out at 64GB of DDR4 RAM, a 512GB SSD and a 1TB HDD as a secondary, finally weighing 3.79Kg.

The 15.6-inch Odyssey will be available for purchase from February for a price of $ 1200 and the 17.3-inch Odyssey has no release date and no base price.
