SK Hynix announces the arrival of new 16GB memory modules for DDR4 RAM, something that allows the development of DIMMs up to 256GB, ideal for servers.
RAM memory is a very serious problem for those who decide to mount a new computer and that is, these modules are through the roof and things do not look like it will be solved in a short period of time. SK Hynix, one of the most important memory manufacturers in the market, has added new DDR4 memory chips to its catalog, which have 16GB per module, which will allow increasing the capacity of each of the DIMM memory modules. These new memories offer the possibility of having higher capacity chips, with fewer semiconductor matrices inside the memories, which is due to the increase in storage density.
One of the main benefits that these memories provide, is a reduction in energy consumption, in addition to the possibility of developing modules of up to 64GB of double rank, creating LRDIMM of 128GB of quadruple rank or LDRIMM of 256 of octal rank. This is very important, because servers based on Intel or AMD processors, which could have up to 4TB of RAM, could be developed using 256GB DIMMs.
These new 4GB DDR16 memory chips are based on 1Gx16 and 1Gx8 configurations, supplied in FBGA96 and FBGA78 packages. The new memory modules conform to speeds DDR-2133 CL15 or DDR4-2400 CL17 with a working voltage of 1.2V. Said 16GB memories, according to SK Hynix, in the third quarter of the year, could become DDR4-2666 CL19, with an increase in the working frequency. It is certainly an important leap, especially for server systems, where the amount of RAM is essential.
