Everything we know about Android 10

Android 10 should arrive on September 3 for mobiles that are updated by manufacturers. We collect all the information we have about the new version of Google's mobile operating system and the most used in the world.

We are very close to Google releasing Android 10, the first Android that does not carry a candy name since it was officially released to the public. This new version is not a great novelty except for two or three functions that they take to keep it alive, apart from the security updates.

When will this update arrive?

There is no fixed date yet, but many sources have already mentioned that Android 3 will reach the public on September 2019, 10. There is already a beta version, Android Q, which can be accessed by a little more than a couple of dozen mobiles officially.

Android Q Beta Timeline

From then on we depend on our manufacturer to have Android 10, at least officially. We can always turn to the complicated world of custom ROMs, with Lineage OS as one of the most followed in the world.

What mobiles will be updated?

At least the Google Pixels should receive an update, perhaps the same day. OnePlus have confirmed that it will arrive the same day, but until there are official news, nothing can be known for sure. Later Android One will arrive, the version of Android controlled by Google and that has some maintenance on the part of Google, and finally it will reach mobile phones with Android Go, the lightweight version of Android for entry-level mobile phones.

At the moment there are a number of phones that can access Android Q Beta 3 and they will almost certainly end up receiving Android 10:

  1. Google Pixel 3XL
  2. Google Pixel 3
  3. Google Pixel 2
  4. Google Pixel 2 XL
  5. Google Pixel
  6. Google Pixel XL
  7. OnePlus 6T
  8. Realme 3 Pro
  9. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G
  10. Xiaomi Mi 9
  11. I live Nex A
  12. Vivo Nex S
  13. Vivo X27
  14. Asus ZenFone 5Z
  15. Essential Phone
  16. Techno Spark 3 Pro
  17. Sony Xperia XZ3
  18. Nokia 8.1
  19. Oppo reno
  20. LG G8
  21. Huawei Mate 20 Pro
  22. Xiaomi Mi 9
  23. Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G

This list is provisional and will surely expand as more companies announce that they want to revitalize their mobiles. Even so Manufacturers must commit to offering two major Android updates and three years of security updates if you want to have permission to use Google applications.

What's new in Android 10

Android 10 has a series of novelties a bit restrained, with little change to the official design.

Gesture control: One of the identity symbols of Android is the bottom bar, which offers us several options, such as a button to return to the main screen, a return button, one for secondary actions and access to open applications. Now want to change it to gesture control, at least by default, although we can always change it to a button bar if we want the control that we have taken so long.

Screen recording: If we have Android 10 we can record the mobile screen natively. Until now we have had to use third party applications to be able to make a screen recording, with some being competent, but most being outright unmanageable, even with the help of a computer. It is not yet known how it will work, but it would be integrated without the need for third-party applications.

Support for 5G: There are already some mobiles with 5G, many of them already on sale in Spain, but it is due to manufacturer adjustments. It is possible that if we put a custom ROM we lose use due to complications with the configuration they use. With Android 10 support for the 5G protocol will be standard and it should be easier to make 5G come on cheaper phones.

Dark mode: Perhaps one of the most required functions by users, who are tired of being blinded every time they use their mobile. With Android 10, a global dark mode would be used, which would allow forcing the dark modes of the applications and activating it easily from the system settings menu.

Concentration mode: More and more people are looking for a way to block applications so that they do not distract them, and this way we would get us to focus on something. With Android 10 we can choose what content we want not to bother us in order to focus on being productive, similar to the uninterrupted mode of some mobiles, but more personalized by choosing the applications that we want or not to stop. Even so, it will be released for mobile phones with Android 9 Pie later.

Live captions: This feature will allow more people to use more applications by creating automatic subtitles for any video or audio, allowing the hearing impaired to access more content that is not subtitled by default. For this they use artificial intelligence and everything they have learned with Google Translate to offer people more content that they would not otherwise have access to.

Smart answers: This is nothing new, as it is something that we have been using for a long time in sites like Gmail. In Android 10 when we have a notification we will be shown a series of quick responses that we can choose to solve issues very quickly. It will appear in instant messages such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal and possibly a few more will appear.

parental control: If we have a minor that we need to always keep an eye on but with a mobile, now we will have better options for managing their information. With the improvements in Family Link we will have activity control and we will be able to control the time that we allow the child to use each application.

We will also receive the history of your locations and, to protect your privacy, they will have extra controls monitored by parents on the information that Google can use to offer personalized advertising.

PS4 controller support: Although nothing was announced, the departure of Google Stadia has forced the implementation of controllers to play on Android 10. No announcement has been made about it but since February there are rumors about it, and it would not be strange if it ended up working.

Can I use Android 10 if my device is not officially supported?

If your mobile does not have an official update to Android 10, there is only the option of using a custom ROM. That means we have to learn to install the operating system ourselves. Right now it is easier than ever to do it at the security level, although the Android custom ROMs community is in a calm moment with little news.

In the weeks leading up to the release of Android 10 there should be news regarding which communities will support which mobiles and tablets. Each one should offer us a series of detailed instructions for each mobile, but in general we will need to know a little about adb. Of course, we are not responsible for any error since it is a risky process and you can lose the right to the guarantee.
