Apple confirms that iPhones will use USB-C by imposition

A few weeks ago, it was confirmed that the European Union is going to impose that electronic devices must use the USB-C connector. It is not that USB-C in itself is going to be the only one that exists, but that they have agreed that this be the unified connector, with a view to modifying it in the future. With this, it could be possible that Apple has to leave behind its Lightning connector and put USB-C on the iPhone, a possibility that they have recently confirmed.

Apple has given its most direct confirmation yet that there will be an iPhone equipped with USB-C, now that the European Union requires all phones sold in its member countries to use the connector if they have a physical charger. The Lightning connector will be replaced due to this European regulation.

Apple Says Goodbye to its Lightning Connector on iPhones

Regarding when we can expect to see USB-C on an iPhone, Apple responded that " Europeans dictate the timelines for European customers ." Currently, the law mandates that all mobile phones and tablets must use USB-C by the fall of 2024.

They made it clear that they don't like being legally forced to make the switch. They also suggested that charging bricks with detachable cables have largely solved the standardization problem , and that changing the iPhone from Lightning to USB-C would create a lot of electronic waste.

The European Union would allow Apple to circumvent this limitation if it develops iPhones that only have wireless charging, since technically the iPhones wouldn't use a USB connector, but would instead charge wirelessly. Apple's Joswiak hasn't confirmed that the company is considering its options, nor has he mentioned discussing ways to avoid putting a USB-C port on the iPhone . Instead, The Verge obtained a response they describe as " resigned and slightly meandering that led us to what seems like an inevitable conclusion: USB-C is the port of the future for connecting and charging the iPhone ." All of this means we'll soon have USB-C on the iPhone, and we won't have to rummage through drawers or carry numerous different cables, which is precisely what the European Union regulation aims to address.
