Apple defends itself against Google's accusations of iPhone vulnerability
Apple denies in its accusations the iPhone vulnerabilities brought out by Google's Project Zero. He assures that security is essential in the iPhone and that they were not attacked for two years, if not two months.
Apple has questioned Google's Project Zero team's findings on exploit-laden websites that inject malicious code into iPhones. Last week, Google published a post on its cybersecurity blog describing how a handful of hacked websites had taken advantage of an iOS vulnerability. Today, Apple has shared a rebuttal, assuring (of course) that the problem is not so bad and that its iPhone has great security. What else were they going to say?
Apple reiterates that the vulnerabilities discovered by Google teams were fixed in February and that they now do not have the vulnerability. It says the attack affected less than a dozen websites targeting the Uighur community. These attacks were allegedly organized by the Chinese government to monitor a Muslim minority in China.
Security flaws are not so bad
Apple believes the attacks via the websites were only operational for about two months, not two years, as Google security researchers wrote. Apple reportedly fixed the issue within 10 days of learning about it.
Still, Apple says security is one of its top priorities.Regardless of the scale of the attack, we take the security of all users very seriously«. Google researchers pointed out other iOS security flaws earlier this summer, and Apple recently had to re-fix a bug that allowed users to jailbreak phones. If nothing else, this is a reminder that cybersecurity is a never-ending battle.
