ASUS and Razer seek to develop a gaming smartphone with Tencent

Information indicates that Razer and ASUS want to develop a gaming smartphone with Tencent, the largest games distributor in China.

Currently ASUS is carrying out an internal restructuring and has already said that it would work more in the smartphone market. New information suggests that both ASUS and Razer are working with Tencent, the largest distributor of PC video games and mobile platforms in China. These three companies are working on the development of a smartphone specially designed for casual games. Neither Razer nor ASUS have said anything about it, declining to comment.

Razer and ASUS work with Tencent to create a gaming smartphone

It should be noted that ASUS already made an investment of around 2018 million euros last December 181 to transform its smartphone business. The investment was made to cover inventory losses, amortization of royalties and an organizational restructuring. The company laid off about 800 workers to focus its efforts on the gaming and high-end smartphone segment.

The next second-generation ZenFone Max Pro, which was launched yesterday, will be ASUS's last finish intended for the consumer range. The company would be finalizing the launch of a high-end ZenFone in the middle of this year. The partnership with Tencent responds to the company's idea of launching a smartphone under the Republic of Gamers range. Although there is no reliable data, this terminal would cost more than 800 euros and would use a Snapdragon 855 combined with an important battery and a good cooling system, as well as several independent gadgets for gaming.

Additionally, Razer has already launched the Razer Phone 2, the second terminal of the company, with greater power than the first model and which has RGB LED lighting. The agreement that they want to close with Tencent would also be focused on the creation of a powerful gaming smartphone.

Rumors indicate that Tencent will not close parallel agreements, or what is the same, studies the two proposals and will choose one shortly. We will see with which they end up associating.
