Most consumers take 3 to 5 years to switch mobile
A survey by a Canadian operator reaffirms that it is taking longer and longer to change mobile phones. Most users spend less than $ 400 to buy a new mobile without ties to a company.
The Canadian operator Ting has published the results of a survey of more than 3000 users to understand how the market is changing. And it is that, although we spend our time talking about mobiles that cost more than a thousand dollars like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, the reality is that very few users tend to buy mobiles that reach more than four figures. What's more, most users invest less than $ 500 to buy a mobile phone if it is not subsidized by an operator.
Of the 3640 mobile users interviewed, almost half (47%) have kept a mobile for three to five years, and with the prices that exist, it is normal to try to extend the useful life of a mobile. The next prominent group is the 30% who wait two years to change devices, with only 10% waiting a year to change terminals, with only 5% who do not wait twelve months.
The reason for the change? Simple, 32% do it because the device they use no longer works, 23% for various reasons, being broken, damaged or lost, while 18% is because they have it out of date.
Fewer renewals for less and less money
Although we see more and more expensive phones, only 3% of users spend more than a thousand dollars, with the majority with 42% spending between 150 and 400 dollars to renew it.
The changes are clear and the renovations are increasingly spaced. Most mid-range mobiles are already good enough to last for several years without spending a lot of money, in addition to the fact that the global economy is not the most buoyant and operators no longer usually subsidize mobiles. Should we be more and more aware of the mid-range with this data? Everything points to yes.
