Samsung could unify the S and Note lines

Samsung would like to simplify the releases and nomenclatures by unifying the names of the S and Note lines. It is speculated that a new name for the series will be created and make it easier for the consumer.

Every year without fail, Samsung announces a range of Galaxy S-branded flagships in February or March and a next-generation Galaxy Note at an event in August. But if the latest rumours are to be believed, this practice could end by next year. During a press conference earlier this year for the Galaxy S10 series, Samsung openly admitted to having second thoughts about the “Galaxy S11” branding due to it being considered too long-winded and revealed that next year’s models were unlikely to carry the name.

Goodbye to separating flagship phones and phablets

The company also stated that it could be a good time for what they see as a brand unification. This comes seven months after Samsung of rumors about the possible merger of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines at some point in the future.

Now there are new rumors coming directly from reputable sources that suggest that these discussions are still ongoing. And if the company goes ahead with the plan, it could all happen next year. During the early years of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note there was a clear distinction between the two. However, since the arrival of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 lineups in 2016, the differences have narrowed and it has too similar hardware. Many have even argued that recent Galaxy Note devices are simply Galaxy S models with an S Pen and it seems that Samsung now recognizes this.

Certainly, there are no guarantees on whether Samsung will give the green light to the plans, as everything remains a rumor, but it is possible that the Galaxy S series and the Galaxy Note line will merge into a single range of devices called 'Galaxy One' that would arrive. in early 2020 instead of the Galaxy S11. However, if the next year is considered too early for the change, the company could always delay the change for another twelve months. It is the usual with rumors, which have to be confirmed.

If given the go-ahead, Samsung's new line will essentially represent an S series with an S Pen. It is not clear at this stage if the stylus would be present in all models or if it would be reserved for the slightly larger and more expensive devices under current plans, but regardless, this strategy would make changes at the launch stage of Samsung.

Folding mobiles would be the new flagships

According to the source, the hope within Samsung is to fill the unoccupied launch site for the Galaxy Note series with a successor to the Galaxy Fold. This idea is highly dependent on the performance of the current-gen Galaxy Fold, both in terms of sales and functionality, and could still be discounted, but it is certainly a clear indicator of Samsung's vision for the future.

According to the latest information, the second generation Galaxy Fold will feature with a 6.7-inch flexible OLED screen that features a small hole for the front camera and folds vertically like the upcoming Motorola Razr instead of horizontally like the original. This particular model is expected to be slimmer, more compact, and noticeably cheaper than the current-generation Galaxy Fold. Marketing would change notably, focusing on consumers who are more interested in fashion and luxury than in technology. It is normal, with mobiles that touch the 2000 dollars there comes a point where you must enter the luxury market where the hardware is good but the design matters more.
