Samsung wants to make folding smartphones cheaper
According to recent rumors Samsung will launch a Galaxy Z Flip 3 Lite alongside the Galaxy Flip Z 3 5G and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 this August. They want that model to change the idea that folding smartphones are expensive and only for the high-end.
Samsung previously committed to reducing the price of folding smartphones in 2021 to make them more accessible. A Lite version can help deliver on this promise. In 2020, the president of Samsung, commented that they will expand their portfolio of folding products so that these models are more accessible to everyone.

All foldable smartphones have cost over €1,000, even approaching €2,000, which puts them in the premium category. A Lite version of a Galaxy Flip or Fold with a three-figure price tag would quickly broaden its appeal. But other rumors suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Lite may have been canceled due to the current global chip shortage.
The next Samsung Galaxy Note isn't expected in 2021 either; it's usually announced at Samsung's late summer event. All the attention will likely be focused on foldable smartphones. The Note line's popularity has been questioned as the phones have increased in size, including the S20 Ultra and S21 Ultra, which offer large screens and powerful specifications. The S21 Ultra supports the S Pen, and Samsung is also expected to ship the Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 with an S Pen, bringing stylus support—previously exclusive to the Note line—to more phones.
All is waiting for the Samsung announcement event this August. There they will show if they are on the way to making folding mobiles popular thanks to more affordable prices.
