Xiaomi abandons MIUI to have a new operating system

If you have ever used a Xiaomi brand mobile, you will have noticed that they use MIUI, a customized version of the Android OS. This way they have greater control over how the software interacts with the hardware, for a more personalized experience. But Xiaomi's love spell with its operating system is going to end soon, in favor of a new one compatible with more devices.

In a post published on Weibo, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, shared that they will debut the successor to MIUI on smartphones that hit the market next year. The new operating system will be called HyperOS.

HyperOS will replace MIUI as the operating system for Xiaomi smartphones

This operating system will not focus on the mobile experience, but they hope that HyperOS will cover the entire Xiaomi ecosystem. That's about 200 product categories, all with a single interface. This is how it should also work on smart home appliances, smart watches, drones, smart car screens, and more.

The first device to feature HyperOS will be the Xiaomi 14 smartphone, which will go on sale in China in December, and in the rest of the world in early 2024. HyperOS will gradually replace MIUI throughout 2024, according to the company. Vice President of Xiaomi Alvin Tse.

HyperOS will be based on the integration of the Androi operating system. According to the CEO, the MIUI substitute “will prepare a public foundation for the Internet of Everything and enable tens of billions of connections in the future“. No HyperOS trailer has been shared yet, and we will most likely hear about it when the launch of Xiaomi 14 is close.
