Xiaomi triumphs in India with 100 million phones in the country
Xiaomi has confirmed the figure of 100 million mobile shipments in the country. India is their most successful country and they plan to reach 10.000 physical stores in the country.
Xiaomi sent out a press release on Friday in which it claims to have shipped more than 100 million smartphones in India, its most important market, since it began operating in the nation five years ago. The company cited figures from research firm IDC.
The Chinese giant, which has held the top spot as a smartphone seller in India for eight consecutive quarters, said its budget-range smartphone series Redmi and Redmi Note were its best-selling lines in India.
The country where it sells the most is India
«It's a testament to the love we've received from millions of Mi fans since our inception. There were brands that entered the market before us, but they are nowhere near the amazing feat we have accomplished ", said Manu Jain, Vice President of Xiaomi and MD of the company's India business, in a statement.
As competition in its local market intensified, India has become the most important market for Xiaomi in recent years. When the Chinese firm entered the country, for the first two years, it relied mainly on selling phones online to reduce operating expenses. But in the years since, it has established a presence in the brick-and-mortar market, which continues to drive much of the nation's overall sales.
Last month Xiaomi said that the company has a goal of building up to 10,000 physical stores in the country by the end of the year. He said he expects to see half of his sales come from those stores within that time frame.
Xiaomi triumphs in a country like India thanks to the entry range, where there is some purchasing power of an emerging middle class. It is in the mid-range where money is made here, making a profit on the margins that sell many phones at more moderate prices. Also a strategy that also triumphs in Spain where the economy is not in its best moment but there is also a lot of market in high ranges.
