Snapchat gets more people to register as voters than celebrities like Taylor Swift, with more than 400.000 people registered as new voters thanks to the photo app.
The United States has very specific legislation to allow who can vote and who cannot. There are places where those who have committed a certain degree of illegality have their right to vote revoked and most states require them to register as a voter in order to exercise the right to vote.
While in Spain voting is automatic, in the UK voter registration drives are massive, as in many cases external assistance is needed. Many social media platforms have launched campaigns to encourage people to register, and Snapchat has already released data showing nearly half a million people have registered.
Snapchat helps people register to vote
Snapchat claims that over 400.000 people have registered to vote thanks to the app's notifications, while messages from celebrities like Taylor Swyft have only mobilized 166.000 people. This is understandable given that Snapchat offers personalized voter registration guides in each state and is aimed at young people who were previously unregistered.
Many other companies have taken similar action alongside organizations that seek to encourage people to register to vote. Both Twitter and Reddit have made moves with the goal of getting people to register to vote, but it seems that Snapchat is more effective than all of them due to its focus on younger people, despite being right now in a very bad time where or they get the repercussion or the benefits that at the time they came to have and made them the favorite social network of young people.
