UL Benchmarks adds an SSD benchmark to the 3DMark Suite

The 3DMark benchmark has been the most popular choice for gamers to evaluate graphics cards and processors for over twenty years. After going through GPUs and CPUs, 3DMark now wants its 3DMark Storage Benchmark to test SSDs, hybrid drives, and other storage devices.

3DMark Storage Benchmark is the new DLC for 3DMark benchmark software. It is now available on Steam and on the company's website.

A new benchmark from the 3DMark suite to put our storage to the test

PC users can now choose from a range of high-performance storage options, from the fastest PCI Express 4.0 and NVMe devices to the cheapest SATA SSDs and high-capacity hybrid drives. Faced with such a variety of features and the need for fast charging, it is necessary to measure the performance of each one.

The 3DMark Storage Benchmark is a dedicated component benchmark that measures the gaming performance of storage hardware. This benchmark supports the latest storage technologies and focuses on practical gaming performance in the real world, using real and non-artificial tasks.

The 3DMark Storage Benchmark uses recorded traces of popular games and game-related activities to measure game performance in the real world. Among those traces are loading various games from launch to the main menu such as battlefield V, Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII and Overwatch, recording a 1080p 60 FPS game video with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) while Overwatch, the installation of The Outer Worlds is played from the Epic Games Store launcher and a save of the game's progress; or copy the Steam folder for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive from an external SSD to the system drive.

The 3DMark Storage Benchmark is compatible with all modern storage devices and can test both internal and external drives. The test produces a 3DMark Storage Benchmark score as a performance measure, and also produces average access time and bandwidth metrics.
