Adobe Premiere Pro 14.2 adds improvements to H.264 and H.265 codecs for GPU acceleration

One of the most important suite of tools for content creators is those offered by Adobe. The company has released a major update for the Adobe Premiere Pro tool. This new version 14.2 implements many improvements, especially for performance. The highlight is that the acceleration of video encoding by GPU has been improved, something that was already necessary.

This new version of Adobe Premiere Pro 14.2 implements improvements in GPU encoding from both AMD and NVIDIA. This is possible thanks to the implementation and optimization of the H.264 and H.265 (HEVC) codecs. To give us an idea, the encoding performance can offer up to x5 times more performance over the encodings per CPU.

The tests provided indicate that the time can be reduced by 2.5 times with an RTX 2060 compared to the Core i7-9750H. This time reduction was achieved in basic transcoding at 4K resolution. The NVIDIA graphics card completed the encoding in 4 minutes and 45 seconds, while the Intel processor took 11 minutes and 43 seconds.

It should be noted that along with the update details, the hardware requirements for H.264 and HEVC acceleration have been stated. According to Adobe, NVIDIA GeForce (consumer) and Quadro (professional) graphics are supported. Regarding AMD products, only the Radeon Pro (professional) models have been listed and not the Radeon RX (consumer).

That the AMD Radeon RX was not included is a big mistake on the part of Adobe, since they are the most common. The Radeon Pro does not have much of a market, while the Radeon RX are the most used, especially by home users. Come on, Adobe prefers NVIDIA solutions over its competitor.
