South Korea wants to stop using Windows in administration and switch to Linux

The Government of South Korea wants to completely move away from Microsoft Windows and that is why it is working on using Linux on all the computers of its administration.

Companies and institutions spend hundreds of thousands of euros on software every year. This year the support for Windows 7 ends and those who have this operating system must go to Windows 10. This represents a great expense for public and private institutions. Well, in South Korea they are tired of paying for licenses and will choose to opt for free software. The South Korean government will bet on Linux when Windows 7 support ends. Something that will save them money.

South Korea will use Linux on officials' computers

Several ministries have confirmed that they are already working on the change. Some departments have already made the 'portability' to this free operating system. This is a process that will be slow, that is why they have already got to work.

This will negatively affect income. While South Korea is not one of the largest countries in the world, losing thousands of licenses, it always shows. It will be income that will not enter the company and if it works, the example could be expanded.

Linux in recent years has improved a lot and is increasingly similar to Microsoft's operating system. Although it still has some technical complications, such as the commands, most of the functions are already as simple as in Windows.

The South Korean government will begin the tests this week and it is possible that it will standardize. Possibly this change process will be complemented with adequate and necessary training for change.

It is not the first time that there is talk of governments going to Linux. From time to time this type of information is given, which sometimes comes to nothing. Nor is there usually more information over time, whether it has been completed or whether it works correctly. Of course, South Korea seems to be betting on the free operating system and it is certain that what they save they will invest in training.
