The myth that Macs are virus-free grows weaker and weaker. An Apple executive has admitted that Mac series computers have more malware than they consider acceptable, and even have more malware than iOS.
If you are using a Mac, you may want to make sure that an antivirus is running correctly, as even Apple is not comfortable with the amount of malware in macOS Big Sur. This came about during the ongoing legal battle between Epic Games and Apple.

Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, is testifying in the lawsuit filed by Epic Games against the company for allegedly forcing them to pay commissions on a game that Apple only makes available on its App Store. This is the basis of Apple's lawsuit against Epic Games . In a statement, Federighi said that the level of malware on Macs today is unacceptable and far worse than on iOS.
This issue came up in court after the judge asked why macOS can have multiple app stores and iOS can't. According to Federighi, the more open software approach that macOS takes has left Mac computers more prone to malware, to the point where Apple is not comfortable with it.
As of today there are 130 types of malware on Mac at the moment, as Craig Federighi previously testified and was first reported by the 9to5Mac portal. But the Apple executive made sure to clarify that he still believes that Mac computers are still safe. But it stated that the macOS malware problem is not as extensive as Windows 10 suffers from.
