Europe lists a series of rules to make it clear that certain content is made with Artificial Intelligence

With the advent of generative artificial intelligence, it is feared that there will be an avalanche of content made with this technique to offer content for quantity rather than quality. Sometimes reducing costs, and deceiving users without telling them that what they are seeing, hearing or reading is made by a generative artificial intelligence, and the European Union already has a series of rules in place regarding this content.

The European Parliament today reached an agreement on the proposed rules on artificial intelligence. It should be said that it has not yet been approved by the Member States of the European Union and until then they will put us into action.

The European Union understands that the content of Artificial Intelligence must be regulated

The goal of the new rules is facilitate the detection of content generated by AI, including fake images. They also seek to completely ban the use of AI in biometric surveillance, emotion recognition and predictive policing, elements that have been worrying citizen security for several years.

The new rules would mean that AI tools like ChatGPT they would have to make it clear that the content has been generated by AI. They will also have some responsibility for ensuring that users know if an image is fake or real.

If these new rules are approved as is in the European Parliament, AI models would have to be made public.detailed summaries» of copyrighted data used in training. There would also be uses of AI that would be completely prohibited, specifically those that could invade the privacy rights of EU citizens. These are the following:

• Remote biometric identification in real time and a posteriori in public access spaces.
• Biometric categorization using sensitive characteristics, such as gender, race, ethnicity, citizenship status, religion, or political orientation.
• Predictive police systems based on profiles, location or previous criminal behavior.
• Emotion recognition in law enforcement, border management, the workplace, and educational institutions.
• Non-selective extraction of facial images from the Internet or video surveillance recordings to create facial recognition databases.

These standards have not yet been incorporated into legislation. Member States may submit until it happens, their own proposals. Nor is it clear the day on which it will be approved or when the rules will come into effect. But content creation tools using Artificial Intelligence are already warned that they must comply with these rules if they want to continue operating in the territory.
