QNAP Introduces QTS 5.1.0 Beta, Featuring Multi-Channel SMB

QNAP Systems, Inc. today unveiled the QTS 5.1.0 beta NAS operating system, which provides highly efficient and cost-effective storage solutions for IT, with rich features such as multi-channel SMB, delegated management, accelerated SMB signing, replacement automatic RAID drives, support for the Hailo-8 AI module, and multi-device management through a cloud management platform. QNAP offers many NAS models with 2,5GbE and 10GbE as standard, thus offering sustainability for multi-channel SMB, driving improved network performance and maximizing IT investment.

“QNAP continues to improve core storage functions and strengthen NAS security,” said Tim Lin, Product Manager at QNAP, adding: “We help our users maintain speed, flexibility, and agility by offering competitive storage solutions. , ensuring they can acquire cutting-edge applications and operational efficiencies to reduce IT and administration costs.”

New key features of QTS 5.1.0

Multi-channel SMB for full performance and multi-path protection

Multi-channel SMB adds multiple network connections to maximize available bandwidth with higher transfer speeds. It is especially suitable for transferring large files and multimedia content. It also provides network fault tolerance to prevent service interruptions.

AES-128-GMAC for SMB signing acceleration

AES-128-GMAC signing acceleration can be enjoyed on Windows Server 2022 and Windows 11 clients. It increases the efficiency of data signing via SMB 3.1.1, and improves the CPU usage of the NAS system. This provides a balance between security and performance.

QNAP Authenticator improves NAS login security

The QNAP Authenticator app is available for configuring two-step login for NAS accounts. It also includes one-time temporary passwords, QR code scanning and login approval, and passwordless login.

Delegated administration to improve administration productivity and data security

With the new version of QTS, users designated as NAS administrators can delegate eight different roles to other users with specific permissions for NAS administration and data management tasks . For growing organizations, this role delegation helps reduce the administrative workload without sacrificing data access controls.

Automatic RAID disk replacement with hot spares before failure can occur

Upon detecting potential errors on a drive, the system automatically moves data from the affected disk in a RAID group to a spare disk before the data on the affected disk is corrupted. This avoids the time and risk of RAID rebuilding , thus improving system reliability. QTS 5.1.0 integrates more hard drive/SSD health monitoring tools, including SMART, Western Digital Device Analytics, IronWolf Health Management, and ULINK DA Drive Analyzer.

Enhanced drive health analysis and failure prediction

ULINK DA Drive Analyzer uses cloud-based Artificial Intelligence to predict drive failures. It features an advanced user interface that clearly displays drive information for each drive bay, along with the lifecycle prediction score and drive load data log. DA Desktop Suite is available for Windows and macOS, allowing for easy monitoring of multiple devices by multiple users.

Monitor and manage multiple NAS using AMIZ Cloud Orchestrator

AMIZ Cloud allows remote monitoring of local QuCPE network virtualization equipment alongside QNAP NAS. It allows you to remotely monitor NAS resources and system status, performing firmware upgrades and installing, as well as updating, starting or stopping applications in batches. In organizations with multiple sites or branches, IT staff can easily manage devices across multiple sites from a single location.

Add a Hailo-8 M.2 AI module to improve surveillance

Adding a Hailo-8 M.2 AI acceleration module to a QNAP surveillance server improves AI recognition of QNAP AI Core. This increases the number of simultaneous scanning IP cameras for QVR Face facial recognition, in addition to QVR Human people counting. This maximizes the security and surveillance system investment, compared to using the same number of AI cameras.
