Sony confirms closing PS3, PSP and PS Vita PS Store

Sony has confirmed that they will close the digital stores of three of their consoles: PS3, PSP and PS Vita. Games that we have associated with our account may be reloaded.

During the last days rumors have arisen that Sony was closing the digital stores of PlayStation 3; PlayStation Portable and PS Vita. Today it has been confirmed that in effect, in a few months it will not be possible to buy digital games for those consoles.

Three PlayStation console stores are leaving

It has been confirmed that the PlayStation Store for PlayStation3 will be closed on July 2, 2021 and that of PlayStationVita on August 27, 2021. In addition, the remaining purchase functionality for PSP will also be retired on July 2, 2021. We are assured that we will be able to reload games that we have purchased, or that we have claimed as members of PlayStation Plus.

The closure of these digital stores will prevent us from buying new games, in-game purchases such as microtransactions, or adding money to the wallet through those consoles. With this, you will lose access to many PS3, PSP and PS Vita games that were only accessible through those stores.

Those with many games on their account shouldn't panic, because for now, they haven't completely disappeared from the servers. They simply won't be able to sell new digital game licenses, but we won't lose access to them, as has been happening with games like Scott Pilgrim . If you have any PS3, PSP, or PS Vita games you haven't bought yet, you have until July or August before they disappear forever and you have to resort to finding a physical cartridge. For now, it's unknown whether they will remove the games from the servers in a few years, and therefore, digital games will disappear altogether.
