Sony shuts down game servers without notifying gamers
Normally Sony warns before closing servers, but this time it has not been. KillZone Mercenary players have found out about trying to enter a game.
Keeping a game's servers open costs money. It may not be much, but if you pile up a lot of games that have no activity and no profit, it can be a huge cost. It's not something we like, but one day the servers of many of our favorite online games are going to shut down. But at least they give early warning, not like Sony has done this time.
The few remaining players, they found out when they saw that they could not enter
KillZone Mercenary was one of the games that Sony sold as those titles that have nothing to envy to those of PlayStation 3, and you could play in a PS Vita. Yes, that laptop that crashed in sales and was quickly abandoned by Sony.
The game had an online mode, which was not the most populated, but you could still find the odd open game and play with other players. Well that is now something that fans will not be able to do because they have closed the servers, and they found out about the closure a few days ago when they were already closed.
Sony typically gives a month or two advance notice that they are shutting down a game's servers forever. With this they notify future buyers and current users that they have the time to play the online mode and that their game is left with one less game mode. But this time they did not warn of its closure, not through a post on social networks or an entry in the official blog, which took them a few minutes.
The play did not sit well with the players. True, KillZone Mercenary and virtually any PS Vita game is virtually deprecated. But players needed to know ahead of time that at one point they will only be able to play in local or campaign mode.
