Sony will not go to E3 this year to show the PlayStation 5

This year PlayStation 5 comes out, it will not have space at E3. It is the second time that Sony has decided not to attend the largest conference in the sector.

Sony has been able to confirm to American portals that it does not feel that the current vision of the event is correct for what it has planned for this year. It will be attending consumer events to showcase upcoming PlayStation 4 games like The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsishima, and the games it will debut on the PlayStation 5.

E3 is dated for Sony

«After a thorough evaluation, SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not believe that the vision of E3 2020 is the right place for what we are focused on this year.

Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson

Normally, Sony has been present at E3 since its inception and has never been absent. For both the good and the bad. But today the organizing body of E3 struggles to satisfy all its members who are divided over what they want the fair to be. Some publishers like EA and Sony want to see E3 become a celebration of gaming fans, while others prefer that the event remain an industry-focused affair. They are among those who think that the fair is not the only place to show their future console: PlayStation 5, which comes out this year.

For all practical purposes, for us it just means that we won't see Sony conferences on the same dates as E3, which runs from June 9-11, but the conferences are usually a few days before the show itself starts. Yes, they can do side events such as PlayStation Xperience or broadcast their news as Nintendo already does: through prerecorded streamings with advertisements without the need for intermediaries beyond streaming websites such as Youtube o Twitch. We will continue to see announcements of PlayStation 5 games but they will be our own presentations at the pace that Sony wants and not what the Los Angeles fair says.
