Square Enix gets rid of IO Interactive, and it could develop indie games
Square Enix and IO Interactive stop collaborating, leaving IO Interactive with the Hitman franchise and also, IO Interactive could return to its origins, developing indie titles.
For a few weeks, Square Enix would have proposed to get rid of IO Interactive, one of its subsidiaries for the development of video games and in the end would have managed to sell it. IO Interactive above all is known for being the developer in charge of Hitman. Finally IO Interactive and Square Enix have reached an agreement to separate their paths. For its part, the IO Interactive studio will now become a completely independent development studio, although it will have the license to develop more entries for the popular game Hitman.
Hakan Abak, the CEO of the Danish developer, has published a rather encouraging message, after a beneficial agreement was signed between both developers and that they would be open to collaborate with other companies and studios, especially for the development of new deliveries, such as Hitman, in addition to another franchise that they would already be beginning to develop and of which they have not given any data. In addition, the CEO of IO Interactive, has been especially happy to have total control over the Hitman franchise and has also commented that he loves the possibility of 'forging a future as an indie studio', returning to his roots, with development teams small, but with a lot of talent and enthusiasm.
Regarding working with large companies, the developer behind the GTA title, Take-Two Interactive, is the one with the most ballots to work with IO Interactive and more after it became known, the purchase of indie franchises such as Kerbal Space Program. We should not lose sight of the possible collaboration of IO Interactive with other large companies, such as Activision and Electronic Arts, two true titans in the video game industry.
