Star Citizen 3.1 will implement a facial recognition technology

The Star Citizen game in its 3.1 update will implement FOIP technology, which allows us to recognize our face through a webcam and make the character in 3D reproduce the movements.

Despite the fact that Star Citizen has been an Early Access game for a long time, its popularity has not fallen, on the contrary, in each round of financing it obtains the necessary funds to implement the novelties. Cloud Imperium Games has released new details about the implementation of Face Over Internet Protocol or FOIP within the game. This system allows through a webcam and a software that allows the recognition of the expressions of our face, allows our character in 3D to replicate them in the game in real time.

This FOIP technology allows 3D recognition of the mouth, which offers even greater realism in the verbal conversations that take place within the game between different users. This system also recognizes head movements, so when we have the FOIP active and we move our head to the right, the game camera will do the same. It should be noted that this system is designed for when we play with a monitor, not with virtual reality glasses, which practically forces us to have a large panoramic monitor.

The company that has been responsible for the development of this interesting and innovative technology has been Faceware Technologies, who have also ensured that it will be possible to use it with practically all webcams on the market, so we will not need a webcam that is expensive or offers brutal quality . Logically, the performance will depend on the resolution, the lighting and the rate of images per second, which is why a special camera will also be launched for the Star Citizen game which will work in low light conditions with a rate of 60 frames. FOIP will be implemented in version 3.1 of the game, so until 2018, it will not be possible to use it.
