The Division 2 has sold less than Ubisoft expected

The sequel to The Division has not worked as Ubisoft expected. They had better sales from Ubisoft in mind.

Recently, Ubisoft has been giving the fiscal results of its last quarter to shareholders. Yves Guillemot has been explaining future plans and sales of past games. What concerns us now are the sales of its title The Division 2, which has not achieved the sales that the French company expected.

The Division 2 has not worked as a sequel

Without specifying details or clarifying anything, Yves Guillemot has cataloged The Division 2 as one of the company's economic failures this year. That means that although it has been able to end up being profitable between sales of copies, microtransactions, merchandising and more, it has not met expectations.

Now, what expectations did they have? Released in March of this year, The Division 2 wanted to make it clear that they had learned from the mistakes of the first game, offering more content and missions ... But perhaps the market was already saturated with games as a service, which is where the game was going.

The Division 2 had to face Destiny 2 and many others, and a lot of people got tired of the first fast installment that they didn't want to give it a try. By comparison, the first installment sold at least 7 million according to VGChartz data as of May of last year. That's a considerable amount, but we imagine Ubisoft expected more. That means they may want to put the franchise and games of the same style to rest. Perhaps with the launch of the game on Google Stadia they will be able to get a little more money out of it, but having classified it as an economic failure little more can be done so that it is not qualified as such and Ubisoft wants to start with another installment or support the game as a service for a few more years.
