All AMD Ryzen Threadripper have silicon modules under the IHS, as demonstrated by der8auer

The professional overclocker der8auer destroys an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, to check whether or not part of the modules under the IHS are real cores or simply, metal elements to accommodate the IHS.

A few weeks ago the professional overclocker der8auer showed us a delid of an AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor, which as we know has in its maximum version of sixteen physical cores. These processors internally we saw that they had four different DIE and in each one we found two CCX modules and each of these CCX modules has four cores, allowing a maximum of 32 physical cores. The Threadripper have half the cores, so in the first instance the rumor spread that the most external CCX modules would only do the supporting function of the IHS set.

The video at that time, after a few hours, was withdrawn because AMD had provided an engineering sample, which is usually a bit different from the commercial versions, so I withdraw the video without major problems. The problem is that that information stayed there, but der8auer has wanted to check it and has destroyed a Threadripper processor to check it and the result is that they are really all cores with their transistors. The overclocker after the delid to the Threadripper 1950X, has worked to remove the DIEs from the PCB, to see if they are real cores or nonsense metal elements.

As seen in the image, each of the four blocks has its integrated circuits perfectly visible and the transistors for it to work, therefore, they would be cores, it is another thing that these are functional or not. The truth is that that information would really make little sense, because why make a processor so large in dimensions adding extra elements that do not paint anything, they could have reduced the size and almost used the same AM4 socket of the Ryzen. This opens the debate if there could be a Threadripper with 32 cores such as EPYC, something unlikely, since up to 16 cores, is an optimal amount for photo and video editing and other heavy tasks.
