Toshiba has developed 14TB HDD drives based on Helium

Toshiba has developed 14TB capacity HDD drives, something that has been possible thanks to the implementation of Helio inside the drives, although we don't know much more about these hard drives.

A while ago we were talking about mechanical hard drives, but in this case Hoya's development of a hard drive with glass plates and a capacity for 20TB, well, this capacity is quite close to the solution that Toshiba has presented. The new information ensures that Toshiba will go from offering 8TB capacity drives, the company's current limit to 14TB, which will be launched on the market "very soon", within the Helium family of hard drives. This information has been commented by the company at the Huawei Connect 2017 conference, held yesterday in Shanghai. 'Soon' it is clear that it is a fairly vague and inaccurate comment, but in this case the company representatives have reported that it would be this year. There is no more data on these units, such as the number of dishes they will incorporate or the type of interface.

I think the market for these mechanical units is still wide thanks to the cost / storage ratio that they still have ... but I think that something should also be done with regard to performance ... as with glass dishes !! With which they could at least increase the rotation speeds and reduce access times, as well as mount a different cache system to allow squeezing the bandwidth of the SATA connection!
