Valve's adventure with the Steam Machines ends, which have already disappeared from the Steam platform and this hybrid between computer and console has not had any success.
The most important video game platform in the world is Steam, the platform developed by Valve, which offers a catalog without comparison in the current market. Since Valve is not satisfied only with video games, they want more and as a result of that, they developed SteamOS, a Linux-based operating system, which intends to end the tyranny of Windows for games. The company has even developed the Steam Machines, a hybrid between computer and console, which has not garnered good sales, becoming a real failure.
These Steam Machine, were raised as a revision of the traditional consoles, based on Steam OS and that would allow them to be updated, improving the benefits of this, reaching new titles and allowing better performance. The aim was to offer a platform for video games, but also a personal computer.
Valve has even deleted the Steam Machines page on the Steam platform, without notice, so it's the end of these devices. Despite this, the company continues to bet on Open Source solutions for gaming. This shows that different versions of Vulkan have been released for game development and they are working to bring Vulkan to iOS and MacOS, by developing the MoltenVK tool.
Steam OS has not been a failure at all, because the operating system has allowed many developers to think about Linux and they have opened a platform, quite restricted, to independent developers, who have seen this operating system as an optimal alternative to Windows. Among others, the games Aspyr Media and Feral Interactive stand out, who have been in charge of bringing AAA titles to Linux. It is a pity about the Steam Machine, but it was sung from the beginning, since they were more expensive than a computer by parts and let's not talk about a console anymore
