Electronic Arts' Andrew Wilson Says Anthem Isn't Dead
EA CEO Andrew Wilson talks about Anthem, noting that it is not dead and that it has a long-term life cycle.
Possibly one of the largest ostia in the video game industry in recent years it has been Anthem. The game pointed manners and there were very good expectations, but it has ended up being a resounding failure. Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, has acknowledged failure in an interview. But he also wanted to make it clear that the future of BioWare is assured, despite the fact that they come from the failure of Mass Effect: Andromeda.
Two very serious failures in a row that it seems like they didn't affect the company. Wilson even compares the studio to Steven Spielberg, stating that not all of his films are hits. It also recognizes that the audience has changed and that EA and BioWare should seek a new approach.
BioWare not in danger after the disaster with Anthem
“We are going to have our main BioWare audience that has been with us for a long time. Today there are children who are 12 years old who were not present when BioWare started making games… and they have different expectations of what BioWare is. The game must be in the context of the world in which they grew up. As a result of that, BioWare has to evolve and expand, and it must test the elasticity of that brand. BioWare teams will continue to work every day and listen to their old and new players, and will strive to deliver on the promises they made to those players. That's what they're seeing with Anthem today, "said Wilson.
Wilson also wanted to make it clear that it is not a short-term game, but a long-term one. It emphasizes that the fundamental elements of the game, the setting, characters or the Javelin costumes, are "compelling." He also wanted to highlight that Anthem is a game that "lives by generation and works in cycles of seven to ten years"
During the interview he did not give any relevant data, such as the number of current players. Reddit is full of threads where people voice their complaints about Anthem. Server issues, freezes on PS4, which is a Pay-to-Win based only game and the like. There is a thread that in April there were like 2 recurring users, so the game is dead.
