Anthem begins its journey with not very positive sales in its first week
Anthem's sales in physical format are not being what Electronic Art expected. Despite being the best-selling game of the week, it has sold less than Mass Effect Andromeda in the same period. It does not look like it will meet Electronic Arts' sales expectations.
Now that Anthem is out, Electronic Arts is looking closely at its sales. So are Bioware fans who see in the game the future of the studio that brought many gems of the western role. After the poor reception of criticism and sales that Mass Effect Andromeda had, the name of Bioware is at stake and available for sales of this ambitious title.
Anthem's first week could have been so much better
One of the key moments of the game has already passed, which is launch week, which is when sales accumulate the most. And there are some provisional results coming from the English market, one of the largest in the world; and they are not entirely positive. To the surprise of few, Anthem is the best-selling game of the week in physical stores.
But it is not that the number of copies is exceptional since Anthem has sold half of those that at the same time did Mass Effect Andromeda. This puts Bioware in serious danger because Electronic Arts expected to sell six million copies in its first month. They can still pick up sales thanks to word of mouth and lagging buyers. But the first analyzes of the game do not say that it is an essential work, since its score in Metacritic is 61 for the PC version.
Keep in mind that this data does not include sales in digital stores and only counts physical copies. In such a widespread digital market you have to count the sales of PlayStation Network, Origin and Xbox Live. These are usually a good part of the sales, but since they are not usually made public, it is difficult to know if Anthem is having good sales.
