Blizzard won't make new Starcraft or Warcraft, and former employees set up their studio

Blzizard has no plans to make Warcraft or Starcraft because those games “don’t sell anymore.” That’s why former Blizzard members have founded Frost Giant.

If you were an old-school Blizzard fan, your favorite company games might be Starcraft and Warcraft, long before it became an MMORPG. Today the Starcraft franchise is quite left and Blizzard does not get you out of World of Warcraft. Faced with this situation, several former Blizzard employees who were key in Starcraft and Warcraft have founded a new studio called Frost Giant Studios.

A new studio to fight Blizzard

Among the key figures at Frost Giant Studios are the following former Blizzard employees who worked on Warcraft or Starcraft

  • Tim Morten, Production Manager for StarCraft 2 and Command & Conquer: Generals 2
  • Tim Campbell, Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne Campaign Manager
  • Jesse Brophy, Lead Artist on StarCraft 2
  • Ryan Schutter, Lead Designer, StarCraft 2
  • Kevin Dong, StarCraft 2 Co-op Designer
  • Joseph Shunk, gameplay engineer on StarCraft 2 and Warcraft 3: Reforged
  • Austin Hudelson, StarCraft 2 Server Engineer
  • Micky Neilson, screenwriter with experience in various Blizzard games

Shortly after the announcement, Jason Schreier de Bloomber commented that the creation of this study is because for Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision, who controls Blizzard, real-time strategy games are not so profitable. They spent many years presenting game projects of this genre. But Blizzard never accepted them because they are so busy with other projects as a service such as World of Warcraft or Overwatch 2.

Seeing that they could not make a new Warcarft, Starcraft or any other game of the genre at Blizzard, they decided to found their own studio, which already has the support of Riot Games.

  1. Unfortunately the authenticity of StarCraft has already taken a step back for the great SC2, and that is that Blizzard only has the name left. Things change, and I hope a new Warcraft and StarCraft are as good RTS as they once were.
