Borderlands 3 will be exclusive to the Epic Store on PC, and will arrive on September 13 along with the console versions
Borderlands 3 was officially announced a few days ago, and luckily the wait until its launch will not be very long. As with other exclusive games on the Epic Store, its exclusivity will be temporary.
Gearbox Software announced in the past PAX East the Borderlands 3 game for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Its series of cooperative shooters that inspired games like Destiny and Anthem will have its third part, if we do not have The Pre-Sequel that came out mercaod several years ago.
First in Epic Store, then in other digital stores
Through an official email from Gearbox, what many feared has been confirmed: that Borderlands 3 on PC will be exclusive to the Epic Store. Its launch has been confirmed for September 13, and until April next year, the game cannot be purchased on other digital platforms. Of course, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions can be purchased regularly in physical stores and the digital store.
For Gearbox it is ideal to get the game first in the Epic Store. These titles dream of using the Unreal Engine and for games that use that engine, they are not charged royalties per sale, thus saving several million dollars if the game is a success. Millions of dollars that they would have to pay Epic Games with sales on Steam, Humble Bundle and other digital stores.
Many players will not be happy to have to install another launcher or use a store with less possibilities than Steam. But we imagine that over time they will not care, since the desire to play a game as big as this is usually greater than the desire to boycott or wait for it to stop being exclusive in April of next year.
