Since its announcement last year there has been a lot of talk about Final Fantasy XVI and its advanced stage of development, as opposed to the development hell that Final Fantasy XV was in for years. Square Enix has decided not to announce the game many years in advance and now there is speculation that it could be released even at the end of next year, just two years after its initial announcement.
During the Tokyo Game Show last weekend, Square Enix said about Final Fanatsy XVI that it is still in an advanced state of development. But the game is not in a position to be shown and they are not going to start their marketing campaign now.
Final Fantasy XVI goes well
While Final Fantasy XVi was not seen during the Tokyo game Show, producer Naoki Yoshida commented that the game's content is mostly complete. The team is now working on just a handful of quality improvements in hopes of not having to delay the game if a date is announced.
Final Fantasy 16's main stage is complete, with the team now only developing a few remaining side quests and focusing on polish and quality upgrades. As VGC reported, this includes the completion of the character models, which received some criticism when it was shown last year.
Final Fantasy XV was announced last year as a PlayStation 5 exclusive game, though the game is also expected to arrive on PC at a later date due to an exclusive deal with Sony. While no official release date has been announced, many expect the game to launch in the second half of 2022, or the first half of 2023 as this is a major release that should restore confidence in the brand.
